Dubai Airports and Emirates Join Forces with Etihad Clean Energy Development to Go Solar

Dubai Airports and Emirates have partnered with Etihad Clean Energy Development Company to launch a major solar energy initiative in a groundbreaking move towards sustainable aviation.

This ambitious project will include the world’s largest rooftop solar panel installation at an airport, marking a significant step toward cleaner operations.

The phased development will see 62,904 solar panels installed across Dubai International (DXB) and Dubai World Central (DWC) airports.

Once fully operational by 2026, these panels will generate 60,346 MWh of clean energy annually, powering 37% of Emirates’ Engineering Centre operations. This initiative is set to offset 23,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year, equivalent to removing 5,000 cars from the road.

This solar energy production will cover 6.5% of DXB’s and 20% of DWC’s energy needs, aligning with Dubai’s vision for greener, more sustainable airport operations.
